Well, kids Challenge 1 is officially over! And it went over really well, I think. Despite my hectic schedule!

I think I'll update Wesdnesdays. It seems the easiest day for me, schedule wise. Plus, who doesn't need a little inspiration mid-week? This way, you get a bit of time to think about it before the weekend arrives!

Well, kids, I'm sure you noticed my ... inactivity. =musachan (that'd be moi) recently started a new job and I've been trying to get up to speed with it. But I am now, so it's back on track! The first challenge has been extended to September 21, 2007, which is also the premiere date of Book 3: Fire So get your TiVos set! This is gonna be fun!

Also be sure to start watching the LJ Artbenders community to keep up to date with new contests and episodes! There may even be mini-challenges held there in the future.

Also, a call to arms! If you have any ideas for future challenges, let me know by dropping a note to *Artbenders!

Though I've been doing this for a few days now, the members list has been updated with all you new Novice Rank Artbenders! If you don't see your name on the list, just send a note and it will be fixed in a timely manner

Well, today's the day! *Artbenders is officially open for bidness. Look around, get a feel for the place and see if you'd like to participate! Don't forget to read the rules and if you have any questions stop by and read over the FAQ before you send a note with any questions you may have.

Our first weekly challenge will be issued next Friday! So sharpen your pencils, ready your erasers and start contemplating ideas, kiddles!

[What is Artbenders]

*Artbenders is an Avatar: The Last Airbender themed art jam here at DeviantART. Every week, a theme will be assigned and it will be your job as Artbenders to create something in response! There's no prizes, no pressure -- it's just for fun.

Themes will range from a word, an idea, a concept to even music and lyrics! You can do anything you want. The only requirement for your creations are that they be ATLA themed, and be in by the deadline. That's it!

[Introduction]

Hello, everyone! I'm Ajax, and I'm an Artbender.

What's an Artbender? What's an Artbender?! I haven't been gone that long, have I? I mean, I fell asleep at my art desk last week ... Ohmygosh!

It wasn't last week! Ay-yi-yi! It was last century! I've been gone for 100 years! No wonder you people never heard of Artbending, no one's been around to tell you all about it! It looks like all the Artbenders are gone. That simply won't do. Now, I'm not exactly an Artbending Master, but since there's no else but me ... I guess I have to teach all you newbies the ropes! Ooooh, I hope this turns out well ...

[What is Artbending?]

Artbending is an ancient and wonderful technique. Like its elemental brothers, in involves a lot of study and practice to master it. Unlike traditional forms of bending, however, Artbending is a very peaceful skill (unless you forget to save that PSD and the power goes out. Then it can get pretty violent...) The most unique part of Artbending is that it is not an inherited skill, but a learned one! So with my help, you, too, can be Artbenders! Then I won't be so alone!

But, I guess ... in a nutshell, Artbending is the ability to use your creativity and make something wonderful.

[How do I learn to Artbend?]

Well, hmm. I'm not really sure how to go about teaching you so ... I guess I'll just start from where my teachers began! With tests and quizzes!

Eh? No no. These aren't boring, traditional kinds of tests. They're fun! You can do them in any manner you choose! You can draw, you can paint, you can sculpt, you can write a poem or story or a song ... anything, really! However you feel you can be most creative.

Every week I'll assign a theme, and it's your job as my students to create something Avatar: The Last Airbender themed in response to it! Pretty simple and hey -- don't sweat it if you skip a theme. You don't lose points. Heck, you don't even gain points. You're not scored! See, much better than a normal school by far, huh? Of course, if you participate a lot, I'll change your rank accordingly You may even get rewarded for it! Tee-hee. But we'll see about that~!

[Where do I sign up?]

Still interested? Fabulous! You can just send a note to *Artbenders with the title [JOINING] and you'll be placed at the Novice Rank! After that ... well, you'll see!

I'm glad to have some students! I hope to teach you all I know -- and I hope to learn from you, too. Artbending is a constantly evolving and changing skill. We'll learn from one another and improve along the way. And who knows! Some of you may attain Master rank sometime and outrank even me (though, I doubt that. I got like ... a century on all y'all).
